Does this Flyers coach deserve this award despite controversy?

Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella, no matter what each person may think of him, has definitely turned the Flyers from unwatchable to a team that will fight and make headlines, both on and off the ice. From the Flyers being in playoff contention to Tortorella causing a stir in the media with an ejection, two game suspension, and benching the team captain for two games, Tortorella has brought a new energy to a franchise desperately needing to be revived.

Despite his fiery attitude and unpopular decisions, some Flyers analysts and fans are now vouching for Tortorella to be in contention for the 2024 Jack Adams Award, the award given to the coach of the year.


Although it seems like a stretch, Tortorella has a team that was predicted to be the worst team in the NHL not only in playoff contention, but proving that they can skate alongside the best teams in hockey. This point was proved last night as the Flyers shut down the Boston Bruins, the best team in the NHL, at a time when the Flyers desperately needed a win.



Tortorella makes decisions and goes about things a certain way, but one thing is certain; he gets his players to respond to him no matter if it is a young rookie or a veteran.

Take Morgan Frost for example. Frost was off to a slow start in the season and was even benched for a game in December. Following the benching, Frost went into Tortorella's office and had a heart-to-heart meeting and since then, Frost has proved he belongs on the ice and has earned his role on the team

Even after Sean Couturier, the team captain, was benched two straight games, Couturier responded with a sharp performance on Saturday, and looked both physically and mentally refreshed.

With the Flyers on the verge of making their first playoff appearance since 2020, does John Tortorella deserve a nomination for the Jack Adams Award?
