The Flyers that will most likely not return next season.

The Flyers are having a great season, based on how they were projected to finish prior to the season. If they make the playoffs, this season will easily be considered a success. Even with a successful season, there will be a few players that the Flyers will most likely move on from in the off-season.

The first Flyer is Marc Staal, who had a great career, however at 37 years old, he's been a healthy scratch several times this year and is now forced into action as there are multiple injuries on the Flyers blueline. Staal, who is a free agent in the summer, may retire but if he does not, an extension, is most likely not happening since the Flyers have several young defensemen that could replace him. The next Flyer is Felix Sandstrom, who is also a free agent in the summer that will most likely not be extended. Prior to the season, Sandstrom would have most likely played the entire season in the AHL. However, with Carter Hart being away from the team indefinitely, and Cal Petersen looking over matched in the NHL this year, Sandstrom has been forced into action as well. This year, Sandstrom, has a 3.23 GAA and a .846 save percentage. The Flyers could call up another goaltender or sign a free agent goaltender in the off-season and could have better production for next year. Lastly, it's the new addition Erik Johnson. Johnson who provides a veteran presence and is a former Stanley Cup champion, however at 35 years old, it does not make sense to extend him, beyond this season, when the Flyers have several young defensemen that could replace him. Erik Johnson was clearly traded for because Sean Walker was traded, and the Flyers have several defensemen on IR at the time. These moves will be for the Flyers to worry about in the off-season, after the Flyers hopefully play in this year's playoffs.
