Kaapo Kaako just missed one of the most blatantly empty nets in this year's NHL playoffs and his team loses the game.

In last night's game one between the Hurricanes and Rangers, New York was up 1-0 with 6:46 left in the third. Thats when Kakko, the 21 year old fin had the opportunity to ice the game.

As you can see here, the puck gets thrown towards the net and takes a funny bounce off of the Carolina defemceman in front. That's when Kaapo Kakko has a completely empty cage to shoot at and Antti Raanta at his mercy.

He shot the puck across the face of the blue paint as everyone including the ESPN crew couldn't help but gasp.

Sebastian Aho tied the game up minutes later, making his miss even more costly, The Rangers would eventually lose game 1 in OT. What an awful time for such a lowlight.

Kakko was chosen second overall in 2019 NHL draft after Jack Hughes. The same year we chose Cam York 14th overall.

This year, he had 7 goals and 11 assists for 18 points through 43 games.
