Allegedly, the Finnish Lotteries Act prohibits gambling organizations from promoting their services in Finland or through events held there.


New details have emerged on Tuesday shedding light on the situation. It appears that Latvia did not violate any Finnish regulations, as the sponsor displayed on their uniforms was identified as "OlyBet Sports Bar," distinct from the entity known simply as "OlyBet." Although the sports bar does offer gambling options, it is not directly involved in the provision of gambling services.


Despite adhering to the law, the Latvian National Team now faces a criminal complaint. IIHF Secretary General Matti Nurminen commented on the matter, emphasizing the need to allow authorities to handle the investigation appropriately. Drawing from his past experience, Nurminen explained that fixed advertisements, such as sideboard advertisements, were deemed impermissible. However, game uniform advertisements, which each country determines independently and are mobile in nature, were considered acceptable. Nurminen urged patience, acknowledging the authorities' responsibility in resolving the issue.
