BREAKING: Teams Calling About This Philadelphia Flyer, Out The Door Shortly
As the Flyers aim to establish a positive team culture, they may be open to moving DeAngelo if the right deal presents itself.
The Flyers could even retain a portion of DeAngelo's remaining contract ($5 million AAV) to facilitate a trade. Despite a challenging season, DeAngelo's status as a right-handed defenseman could attract interest in the market, especially considering his 11 goals and 42 points in 70 games.
It's possible that the ideal scenario would involve a reconciliation between player and coach until the Trade Deadline, which would increase DeAngelo's trade value with a prorated salary.
However, the strained relationship might make even that prospect difficult. With Ronnie Attard and Egor Zamula vying for NHL positions next season, freeing up spots on the blue line could be a priority for the Flyers.
While a DeAngelo exit seems increasingly likely, a buyout or attaching assets to move on from the player doesn't appear to be on the horizon. The Flyers acquired DeAngelo, 27, from the Carolina Hurricanes at last year's NHL Draft in exchange for three draft picks over three years.
