The Philadelphia Flyers have been hit with the second-highest cap penalty in the NHL for the upcoming season, which has already started the team off in a negative cap space.

The penalty comes in the form of a $1,187,500 bonus carryover overage cap hit for next season.

The breakdown of the penalty includes $212.5K for Noah Cates for his +/- rating, with the possibility of an additional $212.5K bonus if he is named to the All-Rookie team.

Despite being retired, Justin Braun has a $550K penalty for his games played, while Cam York has a $425K penalty for his time on ice and +/- rating. This cap hit puts the Flyers in a tight spot, as they will need to be creative with their roster moves and player contracts to stay under the cap. It will be interesting to see how the team navigates this challenge as they prepare for the upcoming season.
