The Flyers Were Split Seconds Away From Acquiring a Star

Whenever there are articles about former NHL players who had offers from other teams or trades that failed, I enjoy reading and watching them.

It may be old news for some fans, but some may not have been aware that the Flyers signed Ryan Kesler to an offer sheet in 2006.

Paul Bissonnette, the host of the podcast Spittin Chiclets, interviewed Kesler with other former NHL players. Kesler discussed his rocky start with former Flyers coach Alain Vigneault, who was the bench boss with the Canucks when the offer sheet was signed.

In that time period, Kesler would been the third significant center piece to an already deep center position with Jeff Carter and Mike Richards already in the one and two center spots if he stayed with the Flyers.

The star centerman, was drafted 23rd overall in the 2003 Entry Draft by the Canucks, his career spanned from 2003 to 2019. He played 1001 games, at 258 goals, 315 assists, for a total of 573 points and 920 penalty minutes.
