The Washington Capitals look like they are going to begin the regular already behind the eight ball as the one of their top player future is uncertain

That player is Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom. Last season Backstrom missed 28 games last season from hip issues, however Backstrom had surgery on his left hip in June but could miss the entire season revealed by hockey Insider Tarik EL-Bashir who reported:

"It feels like the Capitals are planning on being without Nicklas Backstrom the entire regular season."

Capital General Manager Brain MacLellan had this to say:

«It's a hard surgery,» MacLellan said. «Until we see halfway into his recovery what mobility, strength he's gotten back from it. It's tough to project for anybody how he reacts and how he comes out of the surgery. We're going to wait and see where he's at, how he's feeling, how he's progressing."

No word of who the Capitals might try to get to fill in if Backstrom does miss the entire year that's a huge loss for the Capitals for sure.
