Patrick had a outstanding junior hockey career with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. Patrick was projected to be the first overall pick in the 2017 NHL draft but was selected 2nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Unfortunately things didn't work out for Patrick in Philadelphia as Patrick would miss a majority of his time there due to various Injures.

Patrick was traded to Las Vegas last summer from the Philadelphia Flyers in a three-team trade, which also sees Vegas sending Cody Glass to the Nashville Predators.

Patrick was initially traded to Nashville, along with defenseman Philippe Myers, in exchange for veteran defenseman Ryan Ellis. Nashville traded Patrick, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, to Vegas for Glass, the No. 6 pick in 2017.

Patrick missed 57 games last season with head injuries, upper-body injuries, COVID-19, and undisclosed injuries. In the 25 games he was able to play in, he collected just 7 points.
