Report: Flyers Ready To Make Offer To Pietrangelo.

"The Philadelphia Flyers and general manager Chuck Fletcher had a pretty interesting Monday. Defenseman Matt Niskanen announced his retirement which left the Flyers with a big hole on the right side of the blueline and Fletcher reacted by immediately re-signing Justin Braun before he hits free agency. The Braun deal comes in at a pretty cap friendly $1.8million per season. With Niskanen's $5.76million salary ready to come off the books and Shayne Gostisbehere and his $4.5million salary likely traded out of town, the Flyers have some cap and roster space to make a big move. Flyers insider Bill Meltzer reports that the Flyers and Fletcher will prepare an offer for free agent defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. Meltzer adds that the main selling point will be the opportunity to play with young up and coming defenseman Ivan Provorov and the belief the Flyers are ready to win now. Do you think Pietrangelo could be interested in Philly?
Re: Pietrangelo, I suspect Flyers will give it their best shot b/c of all the boxes he checks and b/c there is a path available to open enough cap to do it. BUT he's going to have his pick of landing spot. Times have changed. Philly is no longer automatic top 3 for most every UFA

I would say the Flyers have a fighting chance of putting together a competitive offer for Pietrangelo and convincing him he could win a 2nd Cup here and be part of a dynamic top pairing with Provorov.
But a lock to be able to do it? No.
I think they'll try their best.— Bill Meltzer (@billmeltzer) October 6, 2020
