BREAKING: Major front office news strikes Western Conference contender

As the league settles into the All-Star break and prepares for the NHL trade deadline on March 8, news has been somewhat quiet in the hockey community. However, Wednesday afternoon news struck the league as a top Western Conference contender announced a major move in their front office.

After sitting at the top of the Pacific Division and sending five players to the NHL All-Star Game in Toronto, the Vancouver Canucks announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have extended general manager Patrik Allvin to a three year contract extension.

Allvin is currently in his third season as general manager for the Canucks and in his most successful season thus far. The Canucks have missed the playoffs during Allvin's first two years, but that doesn't seem like that will be the case this season as they are currently one of the top contenders in the West.

The breakout season has been in part due to the moves that Allvin made during the offseason such as acquiring former Tampa Bay Lightning star JT Miller as well as forward Brock Boeser who is among five Canucks to make an All-Star appearance in 2024.

"The privilege of staying on to continue what we started here with the Canucks means so very much to me and my family. While our group has taken many positive steps forward, the job is not done. We will continue to push and put in the work necessary to build a championship caliber team."
