Thursday night saw hockey action across North America, but the biggest story came out of Montreal as the Canadiens welcomed the Edmonton Oilers to town. During their matchup, a certain hit has thrown social media into a frenzy and has former teammates calling each other out.

During the second period of the Oilers v Canadiens matchup, Brendan Gallagher of the Canadiens received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for an illegal check to the head on Oiler Adam Pelech.

There is no question that the hit is dirty. In the clip, you see Gallagher make a b-line to Pelech and throw his shoulder and elbow into the head and neck area of Pelech.

Pelech remained down on the ice for a while before he was able to walk off the ice, to the relief of hockey fans everywhere. Although no punishment has been made yet, NHL Player Safety stated that Gallagher will be having a hearing with the NHL to discuss a punishment.
