The 2024 NHL All-Star game has had some different aspects this season as the NHL aims to increase both fan and player engagement for one of the most exciting weekends in hockey. As hockeys best gathered in Toronto on Friday night for the first ever NHL All-Star draft, team captains got to play their best general manager role, and even executed a trade among stars.

With their first round pick, Team MacKinnon led by Colorado Avalanche star Nate MacKinnon selected NHL legend Sidney Crosby. MacKinnon surrounded Crosby with some great players such as Tom Wilson, Travis Konecny, and Cale Makar.

After the draft, however, Team MacKinnon pulled off the first ever All-Star team trade, sending Sidney Crosby to Team Hughes in exchange for Brock Boeser.

Boeser is having a tremendous season in Vancouver, racking up 52 points on 30 goals and 22 assists with a +22 plus/minus thus far in 2024.

Although these trades wouldn't happen in the real-life NHL, it is extremely exciting seeing hockey's best play their best GM impression and throw it back to being kids in the playground picking teams at recess.
