A forechecking forward who is primarily a defensive player, Garnet Hathaway plays primarily as a depth forward.

We all know how much John Tortorella loves these type of forwards, usually a fourth liner.
The Flyers saw Hathaway as an intimidating presence on ice after he was a game-changer for the Boston Bruins last season.

Thanks to John Tortorella's vision, Hathaway is moving up and moving onto the first power-play unit.
His primary goal will be to serve as a net-front presence, as power-forwards usually do.
Hathaway said playing PK for most of his NHL career gives him good idea on what to do on power play: "As a penalty killer for a lot of my career, it's been understanding how power plays work. So trying to flip that and reverse that and try and find the time and space."

Hathaway thinks that being on the opposing side of the power play, usually the penalty killer gives him a better understanding of what it takes to succeed.
Garnet Hathaway on being net-front guy on Flyers PP: "It's maybe create a little chaos. Something a little bit out of the norm that we haven't shown throughout this year."

We hope this is true since he has never scored a power-play point in his career.
In 21 games with the Philadelphia Flyers this season, Hathaway has 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points.
