Connor Bedard Blocks Trade to Contending Team
The hockey world has a new potential top young talent in the form of 17-year-old Connor Bedard, who is being compared to superstar Connor McDavid. Bedard is almost certain to be the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft and has been turning heads with his exceptional performance in the WHL this season.
According to NHL Watcher on Twitter, on a recent 32 Thoughts Podcast, hosts Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed Bedard declining a trade to the Kamloops Blazers in a potential WHL trade. When asked if WHL players have a choice in trades, Marek and Friedman explained that when you're Connor Bedard, the answer is yes.
Despite being courted by a stronger team than his current one, the Regina Pats, Bedard chose loyalty over immediate success and opted to stay with his team. Bedard leads the WHL in scoring with an impressive 71 goals and 72 assists, for a total of 143 points. He is expected to make a significant impact in the NHL in the years to come.
