After a rough loss on Thursday night to the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers fans were greeted to happy news this morning as the Flyers have locked up one of their fan-favorites and most dynamic shot creator for the future.

On Friday morning the Flyers announced that they are finalizing an eight-year extension with 24-year-old right wing Owen Tippett worth an AAV of around $6.2 million.

This was undoubtedly a great move for the Flyers, locking down one of their most dynamic and best shot creators as the team begins to move into the next phase of their process and prepare for the trade deadline.

Tippett has been sensational this season with 30 points on the year thus far on 18 goals and 12 assists. Tippett has been reliable in transition and in the clutch, with one of his most exciting moments coming on a breakaway overtime goal to give the Flyers a win against the New Jersey Devils in early December.

After suffering a scary injury on Saturday where Tippett went crashing into the boards, Tippett has been placed on the injured reserved list as he works to get back to the ice. The Flyers have felt the impact without Tippett on the ice, losing four in a row with their most recent coming at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings in a 3-0 shutout.

In what has been a rough week for Flyers fans after losing four straight games and the distraction of the Carter Hart situation, Flyers fans have something to smile about as they have found one of their players for the future.
