In recent years, a growing number of NHL players have voiced their frustration and discontent with some of the decisions made by referees in the league.

In the past, it was well-known that players refrained from publicly criticizing officials or the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
However, as times have changed, so have people, and one prominent superstar who has broken the silence is Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins. During an interview with Elliot Friedman and Jeff Marek on the "32 Thoughts" podcast, the issue of inconsistency within the department was raised.
Crosby expressed his concerns, stating,
"There are still instances where you see a highlight or a clip, and you're uncertain about the potential for a suspension. You just don't know if it will result in a suspension or not. That's my perspective."

Since he entered into the league, Crosby has been known for openly sharing his thoughts and frustrations with referees during games. He has also been vocal about the inconsistencies in officiating while on camera.
Crosby remarked,
"When a player repeatedly engages in such behaviour, it raises questions about their intent. We've discussed this extensively with him, but he continues to make those hits. I'm sure the league is well aware of this. This situation is somewhat unique, where you have someone persisting in such actions. I'm merely highlighting the obvious."

He continued,
"I understand that it's a challenging job for everyone involved, but I still believe there's a significant gray area. I don't think there will ever be unanimous agreement on the duration of suspensions or the intentions behind a particular play. It will always be a matter of debate. I hope we can move closer to a clearer understanding of these aspects and potential punishments."

As the season commences, it is expected that this topic will become a heated issue, and we will have to wait and see if other NHL stars will step forward to share their thoughts on officiating and player safety.
