On todays episode of Philadelphia Flyers who cannot catch a break, we have forward James Van Riemsdyk who suffered a broken finger during the Flyers game last week against the San Jose Sharks, and requires surgery.

The 33-year-old forward has been outstanding for the Flyers this season, scoring two goals and tallying five points through the first six games of the season. I believe he's the sort of guy that was ready to put up some impressive numbers under new Flyers head coach John Tortorella after managing 24 goals last season and demonstrating that he still has some gas in the tank. It's no secret that Torts like to play with veterans, and JVR is about as experienced as it gets for the Flyers.
''James van Riemsdyk will be out for 6 weeks due to his broken index finger. He also underwent surgery this week. That gives him a target return date of December 9 vs. Vegas.'' -Charlie Oconnor, the Athletic.
Although he has looked fantastic for the Flyers, there have been rumours that he may be traded at some time in order to acquire some future assets. His contract expires at the end of this season, and many have anticipated that the Flyers would finish in the mud. Now, things could ultimately turn out that way, but if this club can continue to succeed even with van Riemsdyk out with an injury, who knows what his future may hold? He could even decide to re-sign with Philly for the following season in an effort to finish things off successfully.
