After a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Nashville Predators on Thursday night, the Flyers will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Detroit to take on the Red Wings tonight. Tonight's matchup will be the final game before the league wide break and the Flyers are looking to go into Christmas on a high note.

The Flyers matchup with Detroit for the second time this season, with the Flyers taking the first matchup in a 1-0, 32 save shutout for goalie Samuel Ersson. The Flyers are looking to begin a new streak as their loss last night snapped a nine game point streak, which is crucial in the Metro Division with a number of teams neck and neck in the standings.
Something the Flyers will really need to capitalize on is their powerplay offense. Although the Flyers are fourth best in the league at the penalty kill with an 85% kill percentage, the same cannot be said on the other end. The Flyers are currently 31st in the NHL with a 10% success rates on the PP.
That problem was glaring against the Predators on Thursday as the Flyers went 1-4 on the PP and squandered a five minute major, coming up empty handed.
Another storyline for tonight is the potential return of Carter Hart. The Flyers goalie has missed the last 10 or so days with an undisclosed illness but has been progressing and getting better each day. Last night Hart was listed as the backup as Samuel Ersson got his fifth straight start. There is a good possibility Hart could be back in goal tonight.
Detroit comes into tonight's matchup right in the middle of the Atlantic division in fifth place and have lost four in a row. Games like these are ones the Flyers must capitalize on if they want to keep pace in a strong Metro division.
