Toronto Maple Leafs are attempting to assemble a contending roster from discount parts. As a consequence of the teams cap crunch, much like the Edmonton Oilers.

Despite a slow start and questionable offseason decisions, bystanders hope that this is merely a temporary phase.
A PTO with the Toronto Marlies, a team in the American Hockey League, has recently been offered to Keiffer Bellows by the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

During his first 5 games with the Marlies, Bellows scored four goals, totaling seven points.
KIEFFER. BELLOWS.
He has played 95 NHL games between the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers during his career and looks to return to the NHL soon.
When asked about the PTO with the Marlies, he explained his reasoning for accepting the tryout:
"They just wanted me to come in on a tryout and just show what I can do, and that's what I want to do. I want to show I can earn an NHL contract. That's my goal. While doing that, obviously that's a personal goal, I also want to help this team win games and put in a good run, however long it takes, however long I'm here, whatever the situation is - I want to help this team go on a winning streak to help them benefit in the longer run as well."

Continuing to play the way he does in the AHL would likely lead to a NHL contract with the Maple Leafs.
Logan Shaw scores his third goal of the season. Kiefer Bellows has points in two straight games since his debut with Toronto.

#Marlies up 4-0 over Laval.
Starting off, his statistics with the Marlies are impressive:
Kieffer Bellows (No. 20) has goals in 3 straight and has a point in every game since joining the Marlies on a pro tryout.

Totals: 5 GP, 4 G, 7 PTS, +4, 15 SOG

As a capable offensive contributor, Bellows would be a huge step above Ryan Reaves. There is a chance he'll be playing for the Maple Leafs this year. He will also face tough competition from other forwards who are ready for call-ups if the Maple Leafs need them.
