As every NHL fan knows, having a bona fide #1 goaltender is part of the foundation of any championship team. It's a position that holds some of the most important weight in how a franchise will perform, and it's only manned by one or two people on a team of 23.

When an organization has found its number one goaltender, it's always wise to keep them and never trade them away. It seems to be the case with the Flyers and Carter Hart. Over the last year, I have written many articles about Hart and how he has been the best goalie in the Flyers' system in many years.
It appears his strong play has carried over into this season, even though the team has not won as many games as they had hoped.

Over the past several months, there have been noticeable changes to his Instagram account, where he removed many of the recognized colours and pictures of the Flyers and also made his account private. Some took this as the possibility that he was being moved during the summer as he is in a contract year.
«I'm pretty confident I'm going to be a Flyer. I'm happy to be here; I love playing for this city, and the organization. I'm happy to be here,» Hart said in his presser on the first day of Training Camp. «I love playing for this city, the organization. I'm happy to be here.» – Carter Hart

Through eight games played, he has a 5-3-0 record with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. With any other team, those numbers would translate into a playoff spot and a potential strong run in the postseason. One issue that stands out is that he never gives himself any credit and always puts his teammates first.
Being in his final year and holding a cap hit of $3.97 million, it's expected that many teams will be calling the Flyers later on in the season, near the trade deadline, asking what the cost for him would be as they gear up for a playoff run.
Several teams out there could use an upgrade in the goaltender position, and the Flyers could have a payoff in the end.
On the flip side, the Flyers could sign him long-term as he's only 25 years old and will continue to improve as he gets closer to his peak performance.
It will be an intriguing story as the season wears on in terms of what the Flyers will do and what Hart will do in terms of a new contract.
