The Los Angeles could punch a ticket for the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year for the first time since the 2017-18 season, where they were swept by the Vegas Golden Knights.

They were rebuilding since, but their good draft record allowed them to make some moves last summer to be competitive this season. And they are.
The Phillip Danault signing was a great one. It removed some workload from Anze Kopitar. They have now a more balanced attack. The Viktor Ardvidsson trade was a also a very good move, and they didn't pay much for his services. He has 42 points in 59 games this year.
With that being said, their participation in the playoffs isn't set in stone. They are only 2 points ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights, who are in 9th place in the West. It's going to be a grind until the end of the campaign.

And last night, they received a devastating news, as Drew Doughty is out for the season after undergoing successful surgery on his wrist.
He had a great year before his injury, as he registered 31 points in 39 games. His advanced stats were also great.
Doughty is their best defenseman, and his absence could mean the end for them. Their depth on defense wasn't great before his injury, and this news arranges nothing.
The first defensive pairing of the Kings is now composed by Matt Roy and Troy Stetcher...
Los Angeles has 8 games remaining until the end of the regular season. At least, their schedule is pretty easy as 7 of their 8 games will be against teams that will not make the playoffs.
