Mathew Barzal just procured his future for the next eight years playing center for the New York Islanders.

His eight-year $73.2 million contract will make him the highest paid Islander player when it kicks in next season. The security of a long-term deal was what Barzal sought, and now he can concentrate on helping the Isles get back to some respectability in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference.
It is hoped that Barzal will continue his excellent play during this new contract period. He has accumulated 91 goals, 220 assists in 362 NHL games. His contributions to the power play are also vital as he has had 14 tallies and 71 assists showing his playmaking expertise.

The Isles had a poor 2021-22 season collecting just 84 points, and 16 points out of a playoff spot. Getting Barzal locked up should help the team's efforts to return to the postseason.
While Barzal's contract deliberations were lengthy and trade rumors were around, he knows that these things take time. GM Lou Lamoriello is known to take his time on things like this and never shows his hand.
Barzal is an elite player as evidenced by is stats.
He now has eight years (nine, including this upcoming season) to prove his worth.
