Wednesday is proving to be a busy day for the Philadelphia Flyers as well as the rest of the NHL as trades are beginning to fly around the league as teams are making their final efforts to either make the finishing touches to a playoff roster, or unload expiring contracts and begin rebuilding for the future. On Wednesday, the Flyers got in on the action as they traded a top defenseman in return for a first round pick as well as a center from the Colorado Avalanche.

After months of negotiations and many teams interested, the Philadelphia Flyers and first year general manager Danny Briere found a destination for defenseman Sean Walker as he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in return for a first round pick as well as center Ryan Johansen.
Although it was reported that Johansen is coming to Philly in the trade, shortly after the trade was finalized it is now being reported that Johansen is going to hit waivers.

Johansen has had a solid year in Colorado, putting up 23 points on 13 goals and 10 assists, but with the Flyers already having solid depth at the center position, it makes sense to place Johansen on waiver wires and let any team pick him and his contract up.
Although it is tough for the Flyers to see Walker go, landing a first as well as keeping defenseman Nick Seeler seems to be the route that Briere and the Flyers are taking this deadline.
Walker also is a great addition for Colorado who is in contention for a cup. Walkers defense paired with the offensive firepower the Avs posses could make them a top contender in the Western Conference.
