Claude Giroux is one of the most prominent players in Philadelphia Flyers history and a sure fire future member of the Flyers Hall-of-Fame and maybe even a candidate to have his number 28 hanging in the rafters of the Wells Fargo Center. After a 15 year career with the Flyers that featured being named the 19th captain in franchise history, an Eastern Conference Championship, 1000 games played and over 900 points, it was hard for Flyers fans to say goodbye when he was traded to the Florida Panthers in 2022.

Almost two years later, it appears that the Flyers have made out like bandits in the Claude Giroux trade, as they have found a franchise piece in right wing Owen Tippett, who looks like he will be a key force on the Flyers offense for years to come.
During the 2024 All-Star break, Danny Briere and the Philadelphia Flyers front office wasted no time as they signed Owen Tippett to an eight-year contract extension as his offensive firepower the past two seasons have been a pleasant surprise for Flyers fans.
After posting 49 points on 27 goals in 77 games in the 2022-23 season, Tippett has shown no signs of cooling off this season, as he followed up the best season of his career with 36 points on 21 goals and 15 assists through 55 games this season, on pace to top his career high this season.
Not only did the Flyers win the trade by finding a long term franchise piece in Tippett, but Florida practically acquired Giroux for 18 games in the regular season, and 10 games in the postseason before the number one seed Panthers were eliminated by in-state rival Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In the 2022 offseason Giroux signed with the Ottawa Senators in a move that brought him closer to home, which makes sense as he moves into the later years of his career and has shifted more of a focus to his family.
The Flyers also received a first round pick in 2024, which although will most likely end up being a late round pick as the Panthers look like a true number one seed in the East, a first round pick will be a tremendous assets the Flyers can use in trade talks both at the deadline and leading up to the draft.
Despite his otherwise tumultuous tenure in Philadelphia, Chuck Fletcher hit a home run on the Claude Giroux deal.
