In the wake of the Hockey Canada scandal, Samuel Ersson has been anointed the number one goaltender for the Flyers going forward. Many questions arose whether he could fulfill the role with Carter Hart out of the picture.

Ersson, along with his teammates faced a key battle tonight as they played against the Florida Panthers one of the hottest teams in the NHL now. The Flyers won the game 2-1. The Panthers have skyrocketed in the standings are now closing in on the Boston Bruins for first overall in the Eastern Conference.
The 24-year-old goaltender was drafted by the Flyers in 2018, in the fifth round, 143rd overall. Through 26 games, his record stands at 13-9-3 with the goal against average of 2.53 and a save percentage of .900 with three shutouts.
It was a good battle for Ersson as the team's playoff fortunes will now ride on his shoudlers. GM Danny Briere has said the team will not be buyers this deadline as they want to continue their rebuidling efforts. It will be a moment for Ersson to rise and solidify himselves as the number one goalie.
