The Flyers have been struggling with finding a back up goaltender since Ersson has taken over as the starter. Cal Petersen was put on waivers this week so the team decided to bring up Felix Sandstrom for the first time this season.
Many fans questioned the call up as Sandstrom has been having a mediocre season in the AHL while others believed he deserved at least one more shot in the NHL after proving in past season he can be a solid number 2 netminder. After picking up his first win in the NHL this season against the Senators, Tortorella said that he was pleased with how Sandstrom played and that he did something he couldn't do last year, close out a game.
"I am happy for him, he looked confident."
It will be interesting to see if the Flyers have finally found their backup in Sandstrom moving forward.
