After the Flyers gave up six goals in a loss to their rival New Jersey Devils in the 2024 Stadium Series, many fans and analysts were critical of Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson. Despite the success Ersson has had this season, many say that the Flyers are still in need of a number one goalie and think that Ersson isn't the long term answer. On Thursday night, Ersson responded in a big way.

In Thursday night's 3-1 win in Chicago, Ersson stopped 21 of 22 shots for a .955 save percentage. Ersson seemed to be calm, relaxed, and seeing the puck extremely well on Thursday and didn't seem to feel pressured too often.
Ersson's best moment of the night came right at the start of the first period where he flashed his leather and made a diving stop save with multiple guys flying over top of him. That first save set the tone for the entire night for Ersson and the Flyers.
With a win last night, Ersson's record improves to 16-10-4 with an exact .900 save percentage to go along with three shutouts and a 2.58 GAA on the season. Say what you want, but Ersson has been thrust into the fire in an unprecedented situation thanks to Carter Hart, and has been able to keep the Flyers stable.
Ersson may not be the Flyers long-term answer with guys like Carson Bjarnson and Yegor Zavragin waiting in the wings, but Ersson has shown he can come up big when it matters.
