Several weeks back, it was revealed that Wayne Simmonds, known for his physical style of play, would be completing a one-day contract to retire while donning a Philadelphia Flyers jersey.

It's a fitting conclusion to an illustrious career for the Scarborough, Ontario-born athlete. Simmonds' tenure with the Flyers marked the pinnacle of his professional journey. Over seven years from 2012 to 2019, Simmonds endeared himself to fans as a Flyer, achieving two seasons with more than 60 points and 100 penalty minutes.
The Flyers will pay tribute to Simmonds ahead of their game on Saturday, April 13th, against the New Jersey Devils, another former team of his, at the Wells Fargo Center.

"It's hard to describe my emotions on a day like this, but one of my very first thoughts as I look back is my life in Philadelphia and playing for the Flyers," Simmonds said in a statement. "Taking the ice in a Flyers sweater is a special feeling and it's one that I'm truly proud of. The history of this franchise and standard of being a Flyer that was set is unique and one that I hold in the highest regard. Perhaps the biggest reason for that is the way the fans embrace this team."
The latter phase of Simmonds' career was marred by a series of injuries resulting from his physically demanding style of play. Simmonds' final game took place on April 8th, 2023, as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, facing off against the Montreal Canadiens.
The 35-year-old concludes his career after competing in 1,037 NHL games, tallying 263 goals and 526 points. Throughout his 15-year tenure, he showcased his skills with teams such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Nashville, New Jersey, Buffalo, and Toronto.
