The 2023 NHL Draft was centered around the number one overall pick Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks. The 18-year-old center from Vancouver is one of the most highly touted young players since Sidney Crosby and for good reason. From his speed, to puck handling, to his shooting ability, Bedard is one of those pieces who can alter the trajectory of a franchise, which is why the Blackhawks took him first overall.

Bedard absolutely lit up the WHL in 2022-23, amassing 143 points on an almost even goals and assists ratio, scoring 71 goals and 72 assists. Despite his youth, Bedard has shown he can skate at an NHL level, scoring 33 points in his first 39 games with the Blackhawks, notching 15 goals and 18 assists.
After a hot start, Bedard suffered a broken jaw in December, keeping him sidelined for over six weeks. Bedard was forced to miss the All-Star game and Skills Competition, driving him to get back to the ice as soon as possible.
Monday afternoon, the Chicago Blackhawks announced that a return is coming for Connor Bedard, as he participated in practice today. The team is aiming for his return sometime next week.
Bedard looked sharp in practice, firing slapshots, working on his conditioning, and spending extra time with coaches. Head coach Luke Richardson was especially impressed with the patience that Bedard showed during his rehab.
"That was just hard for him to accept at the beginning, but he's been great lately. And I think he's calmed down and realized that he's got to go through this process."

The Blackhawks open next week against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, which many are speculating will be the game Bedard makes his return.
