Tortorella was asked about his confidence in Sam Ersson going forward and he stated that the Flyers are not competing for a playoff spot with six games remaining if it was not for Sam Ersson and the way he has played this year. He went on to say that Sam Ersson has played a ton of hockey over the last several weeks, and Ersson playing so much was a decision they made as they did not have a ton of confidence in the backup goalie situation. Also, that Sam Ersson has most likely played too much, but the Flyers have not lost confidence in Sam Ersson going forward as the goaltender.
He was also asked about Sam Ersson numbers and if it was unfair to judge him based off his numbers. John Tortorella response was that they "we were not expecting Sam's development to be going down this road." He stated that, it's unfair to look at Sam's numbers because Tortorella put him in a tough spot because he has played so much hockey as of late.
Flyers head coach John Tortorella also stated that they did not make a decision yet on who will start on Friday night against Buffalo. However, with back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday night, we should expect to see both Sam Ersson and Ivan Fedotov this weekend.
