Three Flyers who could be trade candidates this offseason

The Philadelphia Flyers 2023-2024 regular season is coming to an end and there are three Flyers who could be trade candidates this offseason to help continue the rebuild. Per NHL trade rumors, the three Flyers who could be traded this offseason are Ryan Johansen, Rasmus Ristolainen and Morgan Frost.

Johansen, was clearly only traded for so the Flyers could receive a 1st round pick in return for Sean Walker. Johansen has one year left on his contract, so he could potentially be moved. However, per Flyers general manager Danny Briere, he was going try to flip Johansen at the deadline so he could play on an NHL team, however no trade was made. The other option is to buy out Johansen's contract, however he must be healthy for the Flyers to be able to do so.

Ristolainen, who was injured earlier this season, has played only 31 games and has just four points on the season. Ristolainen is under contract through the 2026-2027 season with a cap hit of $5.1 million. The Flyers traded for Ristolainen in 2021 and traded a 1st round pick to get him, which does not seem like the Flyers could get the same return for him, however, with the plethora of young defenseman, he may be moved this offseason.

Frost is an interesting case because he is only 24 years old. We have seen Frost with highlight reel type goals and assists. However, Frost was also scratched multiple times this year by Head Coach John Tortorella. With Frost being a former 1st round pick and being only 24, the Flyers should be able to find a trade partner if they wish to move him. Frost is signed with the Flyers through the 2024-2025 season with a cap hit of $2.1 million. Frost will become a restricted free agent after the 2024-2025 season. No matter how the Flyers regular season ends, it should be an interesting offseason.
