The year 2026 may seem far in the distance, but in reality in two years the Flyers could take that leap and become a legitimate contending threat in the NHL. Not only will the much anticipated top pick Matvei Michkov will be eligible to make his NHL debut, but the 2026 NHL free agency class could be absolutely stacked with talent.
With all the loads of young talent, general manager Danny Briere will be able to have enough cap space to try and lure a top free agent to come to Philadelphia and be that solidifying piece for that young core.
Atop the 2026 free agent class is world class superstar Connor McDavid. Now, will the Oilers actually let a player like that go? We don't know for sure but if McDavid ends up becoming a free agent, there's no reason every team shouldn't go after him.
Alongside McDavid, Artemi Panarin, Jack Eichel, Kirill Kaprizov, Patrik Laine, Cale Makar and Jacob Trouba are all free agents. All those players could greatly contribute in building Philadelphia's next championship caliber team.
