The Philadelphia Flyers have never had a goaltender like Ron Hextall before nor after his tenure as a Flyer ended.

He wasn't the flyer to mess with and the Montreal Canadiens found that out back in one of the most memorable series of all time.
The 1989 series between the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Canadiens were favorites going into the series with a 53-18-9 record while the Flyers just made the playoffs with a 36-36-8 record. However, that was the regular season and anything can happen when you make the Playoffs.

The Flyers who where always considered one of the hardest working teams in hockey, would knock off the Washington Capitals in the first round of the playoffs 4-2 to move on to the next round.
In the Patrick Division finals the Flyers would battle back down 3-2 in the series to beat the Penguins 4-1 in game 7 moving on to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Unfortunately for the Flyers their Cinderella playoff run would end to the Montreal Canadiens. However, not without a going away gift from the Flyers and Ron Hextall.

This was classic old school hockey you'll never see in today's NHL for better or worse.
With just under 2 minutes to play in game 6 Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall would absolutely lose his sh*t on the Montreal Canadiens and get into it with Canadiens defenceman Chris Chelios.

Chelios was public enemy number one from a hit on Flyers Brian Propp.

Hextall and the Flyers would get into a brawl with the Canadiens and Hextall tried to challenge Habs goaltender Patrick Roy into a scrap, Roy Would skate out to the blue line and drop his stick, but Canadiens Head Coach Pat Burns Ordered Roy not to engage.
