The rebuilding of the Philadelphia Flyers is in full swing, with General Manager Danny Briere completing his first draft and his first unrestricted free agency day. With the newly minted management team in place and the desire to build a new era with the Flyers, one cannot help but notice that the prospect pool for the team is also improving.

The Flyers have made the most of their draft choices and have had several successful picks, including Cam York, Cutter Gauthier, Tyson Forester, and now Matvei Michkov. According to hockey prospecting, the Flyers are currently ranked 3rd overall in terms of prospect pool strength as of July 2023. Going into 2024, the Flyers will hold nine draft picks, although this could change if any further deals occur between now and next year's draft.

The Flyers are now ranked 3rd overall in depth of prospect pools in the NHL, according to an NHL draft consultant.

As the rebuild continues to accelerate and more of the old construction is removed from the lineup, many of these players will give head coach John Tortorella a plethora of options to choose from. Flyers fans will have to wait and see Michkov's talents as he will be in Russia for the next three years playing in the KHL.

He is expected to join the Flyers at the age of 21, having gained valuable experience playing with grown men and learning how to win against them. This will also provide the Flyers with an opportunity to continue reshaping the roster to better suit his style of play.

Flyers fans certainly have reasons to smile, as it appears the team is willing to make the necessary changes to field a competitive team for the playoffs and, hopefully, one day make a run at the Stanley Cup.
