Whenever a coach or a general manager is fired mid-season, the team in question normally hires or appoints someone internally to fulfill the role until the end of the season to see how they handle the job and if they can do it full-time.

The Flyers did that such thing when they fired president and general manager Chuck Fletcher and handed the role over to upcoming executive Danny Briere.

Over the past number of weeks, Briere has made a few minor moves, especially in the AHL and began the painstaking task of evaluating the entire team and the phantoms to choose a direction for their rebuilding phase.

Tonight on insider trading, TSN insider Darren Dreger did not mention the word interim when describing Briere's role with the Flyers.

Many pundits throughout the league feel that this is Briere's job to lose and that he will be named the 10th general manager of the Flyers next week.

I feel he deserves this role as he has immersed himself with the Flyers as a player and an executive. He has an excellent camera presence and has a clear vision of what he feels the direction of the team should go.

We will have to see if Dreger is correct.
