It's safe to say that Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo did not have a great finish to the season. For the final three games, Head Coach John Tortorella benched him and put him in the press box.

This has been an ongoing issue with DeAngelo and Tortorella and it begs the question will the Flyers entertain the idea of trading the edge load to another organization for draft picks and prospects?
It's certainly possible that interim general manager Danny Briere may look at this option, as DeAngelo holds a $5 million cap hit going into next season. According to CapFriendly, he only has one year left making him an unrestricted free agent come 2024-25.

It would require the Flyers to eat some of the salary to move him with his numbers have not been great defensively.
The idea of buying him out does not make any sense, as the Flyers are trying to recoup as much cap space as they can once they've begun drafting their new core that will require money down the road. Tying up all that money to a buyout does not give them flexibility.
The Flyers could keep him, they need veteran players to help the younger ones develop and grow. It remains to be seen if DeAngelo can fulfill that role. Having held a - 27 during this year's campaign certainly does not give him much grounds for defensive advice.
It leads me to the idea that DeAngelo is here to stay till the remainder of his deal. If his play improves during next season, he would be used to being traded at the trade deadline.
The Flyers could recoup some assets his salary would be much lower and easier to handle during a trade deadline. There's no reason to trade him when his value is the lowest.
