The news was not encouraging from this mornings press conference with Philadelphia Flyers head coach, John Tortorella. When asked about the status of Sean Couturier, who had been skating prior to this week, Tortorella gave a bleak update.

With Couturier being shutdown, Cam Atkinson also confirmed without having a timetable to return, James Van Riemsdyk out for 4-6 weeks due to finger surgery, and Ryan Ellis out indefinitely, the Philadelphia Flyers currently have $26.875 million in contracts absent from their lineup.
The NHL's current salary cap is $82.5 million, meaning the Flyers have approximately one third of their allowable salary cap injured.

The news regarding Couturier is particularly concerning, as Chuck Fletcher locked him into a maximum length 8 year contract, at an annual cap hit of $7.75 million. The contract expires at the end of the 2029-30 season and has a no movement clause throughout.
