The hatred between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers is no secret. From the heated regular season division battles, the black Friday throw downs, and the playoff wars, the Flyers and Rangers rivalry is one of the most iconic rivalries in all of hockey. On Thursday night, however, the rivalry took a backseat as Flyers fans united with the Rangers for their matchup against fellow Metro rival New Jersey Devils.

As the Philadelphia Flyers unexpectedly find themselves in a race for the playoffs, one of the teams they are competing with are the New Jersey Devils. As the Flyers sit third in the Metro Division, the New Jersey Devils began to gain traction after a 6-3 win against the Flyers last Saturday.
With nobody seemingly catching the Rangers, it was important for the Rangers to take care of business against the New Jersey Devils, to give the Flyers a little more cushion in the Metro Division standings.
To Flyers fans delight, the Rangers absolutely dominated the Devils as they cruised to a 5-1 victory on Thursday night, with all of Philadelphia cheering them on.
Not only did the Rangers comfortably win, they dominated the Rangers both statistically and physically as Matthew Rempe knocked out and bloodied Nate Bastian with a big hit.
After the Rangers took care of business against the Devils, the Flyers comfortably sit at third in the Metro with 67 points on a 30-20-7 record as the Devils now fall behind the Washington Capitals in fifth place of the division with just 60 points.
The Flyers and Rangers fanbases shortly go back to hating each other as the two teams are set to face off Saturday afternoon for a prime time showdown in Philly on ABC at 2:00p.m.
