General manager Danny Briere pulled off a great trade during last summer's off season when he acquired Sean Walker, prospect Helge Grans and seldom used goaltender Cal Petersen in a three-way deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets and LA Kings.
Both Walker and Grans will help the Flyers in some form or another it's clear that Petersen has not panned out. After having one of the worst save percentages last season, the Flyers tried him out and he has played four games for the team, going with a record of 2-2-0 with a terrible 3.90 goals against and a brutal .864 save percentage.
He was shipped down to The Phantoms to rebuild his game and his reputation, and it appears he had a solid night against the Hershey Bears.
His demotion to the AHL will cost the Flyers $3.85 million as a buried calf penalty and he holds another season at that value next year. With his poor play in the hopes of restoring it it's highly doubtful a team would be willing to look at him in a trade as the deadline approaches on Friday.
It remains to be seen on whether he can come back to the NHL as a reliable goaltender.
