It's becoming clear that the Flyers are holding some of the best cards in this year's trade deadline as the team continues to enjoy a winning season and being in a playoff spot.
This gives general manager Danny Briere a chance to evaluate his team closer and to see whether he could be a buyer or just a seller. After Chris Tanev was moved to the Dallas Stars yesterday, the Flyers now move to the centre and hold one of the best trade pieces in the NHL, Sean Walker.
It's clear that both sides cannot find a number that they're comfortable with and will likely be traded at the deadline to numerous teams looking for defensive help. Walker has had a strong season with the Flyers as he has played steady defence for head coach John Tortorella along with getting decent points for his minutes played.
The 29-year-old defenceman who is a right-handed shot is quite coveted and after playing 60 games, he has scored six goals with 16 assists for 22 points and as a + 10. It also makes him an attractive trade option is that he only holds a cap hit of $2.65 million which allows him to be more marketable for many teams strapped to the cap.
Tortorella has done a remarkable job boosting his value and now could receive as high as a first round draft pick from a team looking for help. Time will tell whether the Flyers will be able to make that kind of a deal, but it's likely he will be moved at the deadline since they cannot find a contract settlement.
