Claude Giroux is the most unprecedented leader of the Philadelphia Flyers of the 21st century. Consistent playoff runs, an Eastern Conference Finals Championship, and his ability to command a locker room is the reason Giroux wore the 'c' on his chest for so long. On Wednesday night, the Flyers named Sean Couturier as the 20th team captain in franchise history, the first since Claude Giroux was traded in 2022.

In true Claude Giroux fashion, he immediately reached out to Sean Couturier and congratulated him on receiving that honor.
For Couturier, learning behind Giroux for years clearly had an impact on Coots as he learned what it took and what it means to be the captain of the Philadelphia Flyers. From guys like Giroux, to Chris Pronger, to current GM Danny Briere, Couturier has learned from Flyers royalty in his years with the orange and black.
After suffering an injury just 29 games into the season last year, Couturier was sidelined a majority of the year and because of his age, many wrote Coots off and were curious to see if he would even return to the ice and general.
Head coach John Tortorella said that Coots all offseason was wearing his ear out and was a "pain in the a---" as he was quickly trying to rehab and get back on the ice.
In his first season back with the Flyers, Coots has the Flyers staring at a playoff spot with just over a month to go, has took command of the locker room, and was named team captain. I would say his comeback has been above par for the course thus far.
