The 2023 NHL Draft was centered around the number one overall pick Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks. The 18-year-old center from Vancouver is one of the most highly touted young players since Sidney Crosby and for good reason. From his speed, to puck handling, to his shooting ability, Bedard is one of those pieces who can alter the trajectory of a franchise, which is why the Blackhawks took him first overall.

Bedard absolutely lit up the WHL in 2022-23, amassing 143 points on an almost even goals and assists ratio, scoring 71 goals and 72 assists. Despite his youth, Bedard has shown he can skate at an NHL level, scoring 33 points in his first 39 games with the Blackhawks, notching 15 goals and 18 assists.
After a hot start, Bedard suffered a broken jaw in December, keeping him sidelined for over six weeks. Bedard was forced to miss the All-Star game and Skills Competition, driving him to get back to the ice as soon as possible.
After announcing on Monday that Bedard could be on his way to making a return, news came on Thursday morning by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman that Bedard is aiming to play tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"Word this morning that Blackhawks and Connor Bedard are checking in with doctors about the possibility of playing tonight vs Pittsburgh. We will see what the day brings, but the good news is his return is close."
