Wednesday night was a historic day for the Philadelphia Flyers and their fans. After not having a Team Captain since the departure of the legendary Claude Giroux, the Philadelphia Flyers named center Sean Couturier the 20th Team Captain in franchise history on Wednesday night, along with naming Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton Alternate Captains.

Following the major announcement, head coach John Tortorella and the Flyers executives issued a personal message to Flyers season ticket holders. Not only was this message showing that the players were deserving, but it is another example of showing the transparency, honesty, and dedication that fans have been so impressed by.
"I informed out group this morning that Sean Couturier is the Captain of this team. His leadership and presence has been second to none this year and is an essential reason why our group is playing at another level this season."

Tortorella also gave his praises to Scott Laughton and Travis Konecny, who have been named alternate captains on Wednesday evening.
"Scott Laughton will continue to serve as alternate captain...Steady, fierce and a true Philadelphia Flyer at heart. He is vital to how this team's foundation is being built...In my mind, Travis Konecny has made the biggest leap forward as a leader on this team since I've been here. His tenacity, hunger to win and the way he always fights for his teammates tells you all you need to know about him."

From a coach who has been labeled as a tough, gritty, and sometimes controversial style, it was interesting to see the human element shown by Tortorella and how much he truly loves his players.
With the future of the Flyers leadership now in place, are the 2024 Flyers poised for a playoff push?
