The Flyer goaltending has been the worst in the league since mid January. The combination of Sam Ersson, Felix Sandstrom, Cal Pederson and Ivan Fedotov have not been able to fill the considerable shoes of Carter Hart. The Flyers have fallen out of a playoff spot for the first time since November, and continue to spiral among a 7 game losing streak.

Head coach John Tortorella has spoken recently in defense of his goalies, especially Sam Ersson.
"Everybody throws the numbers that are out there. And the numbers are bad. But we're not even talking about these games meaning anything for us, if Erss doesn't play the way he's played."

Tortorella clearly think Ersson is the reason the Flyers are in a position to battle for a playoff opportunity. However one cannot ignore the considerable drop in Erssons play after he became and every game starter.
This leads back to the question, is the true starting, number one goalie a thing of the past? Number one goalies are playing less and less. While the Boston Bruins have one of the best records in a league with an essential goalie split between Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark. Time will tell what the Flyers do on net, but one would think that Ivan Fedotov will see some more time so the Flyers can assess if they will sign him to an extension this summer.
