It has been a season of ups and downs, twists and turns for the Flyers this year. They have dealt with Injuries to major players like Sean Couturier, Owen Tippet and currently the one that hurts the worst, Travis Konecny. The have had their star goalie, developed in the Flyers Organization, play his last game in the orange and black due to an ongoing police investigation regarding the 2018 Canadian World Junior Team.

Throughout all of this, one payer deserves a ton of credit for being able to handle putting the team on his bac and being a rock, they can lean on. Sam Ersson. Ersson has taken this crazy rookie season of his and outperformed everyone's expectations. Starting the year believed to be the backup goalie for Carter Hart, he is now in line to play all but maybe 4 of the Flyers remaining games. He has Stepped in and played tremendously after becoming the out of nowhere starter for the Flyers. His Save Percentage of .899 is deceiving, as some of these games the team played terribly in front of him against teams like the Avalanche and Lightning whose players make most goalies look silly. as well as two random starts in November when he was not in any rhythm.
The most recent example was last night's game against the Blues, where Ersson made stop after stop to keep the Flyers in the game, and without Travis Konecny in the lineup, the Flyers needed every save in order to salvage one point from that game. Even including a few outlier games, Ersson has a 2.57 GAA which is top half of the league, and 3 shutouts this season which is tied for 3rd most.
Ersson has earned serious consideration as the Flyers goalie of the future as he is only a rookie and far from hitting his Prime. The Flyers may have avoided disaster with Carter Hart Leaving by having Ersson already in house!
