When Nathan MacKinnon's team picked Crosby, he wasn't there. Instead, a kid from the Tim Hortons Timbits program represented Crosby. Later, it was revealed that Crosby had a prior commitment.
As he only plays in the actual All-Star Game on Saturday and skips the Skills competitions, he focused on the current season, seen skating in Montana, as per team insider Taylor Haase.

Haase explained:
"Crosby isn't here for all this today. That's the NHL's fault for making the skills day the way they did tomorrow, where not everyone participates. No reason for Crosby to be here this early. He's skating. In Montana. Because of course he is."

MacKinnon expressed surprise, saying, "I didn't even know he wasn't going to be here. But yeah, it'll be cool to play with him in an All-Star Game. We've got some good leadership on the team now, and hopefully we can win it."
Crosby is expected to miss the Skills competition but will join his team in Toronto for the game on Saturday. Crosby is expected to join the fun on Saturday for the game.
