There is no surprise that the NCAA and the CHL are some of the most talented, competitive, and economically successful sports organizations in the world as a majority of the NHL's talents come from those leagues. Although successful, the NCAA and CHL haven't been able to see eye-to-eye. After years of animosity, could there be a possibility of a merger in the future?

Prominent NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman revealed on Monday afternoon that the NHL and CHL have been having serious, positive conversations about the possibility of CHL players attending school in the U.S. after their CHL contract has expired, and playing NCAA hockey.
«From what I understand, the CHL and the NCAA are talking very seriously about if you are eligible to go to school in the U.S. after your CHL career is done, you can go play for a NCAA team, this merger is going to happen at some point»

The first step in the process will be NCAA coaches holding a vote on the subject, but even if all or a majority of the coaches agree, there are still many hoops to jump through with the NCAA.
"Even if coaches go for it, there's the question of how quickly will the NCAA allow it to happen. So there's that, but we are headed toward a future of where CHL players are going to be able to play NCAA hockey. The question is when.»

For Flyers fans, this means that guys like Oliver Bonk and Denver Barkey could choose to attend a U.S. University before coming to the Flyers, meaning that fans could have to wait even longer to see their future stars in the orange and black.
Although no decisions have been made final, it seems that it is not a question of 'if' it will be allowed, but more so 'when' it will be allowed.
