The world these days seems to be on fire with numerous conflicts and many countries living on edge as it seems the world is spinning out of control. These issues also impact the sport of hockey as the IIHF made a major announcement today regarding the ban of Russia and Belarus for the 2024-2025 championship season.

The ban of Russia and Bella russe was implemented in February 2022 after the Russians invaded Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine is now approaching its 2nd anniversary on February 22nd. The IIHF feels that players from both countries are still in a compromised state and their security may be impacted quite severely. Julie, these teams may not see this competition for quite some time as the war has been raging on and appears not to be ending anytime soon.
The good news if there is any, is that the IIHF is willing to continue to monitor the situation and re evaluate both countries on whether they can return to the competition once hostilities cease.
The upcoming 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in Prague Czechia from May 10th through May 26th 2024.
