Back in 2022, the Pliadelphia Flyers made quite the prosperous trade. Claude Giroux, their captain at the time reached his official 1000th game with the franchise, and was trade to the Florida Panthers. Although losing a valuable player, what they got in return is now paying off ten-fold.

The Flyers won the Claude Giroux trade big time

Flyers- 2024 first round pick (FLA), Owen Tippett, Denver Barkey

Newly signed Barkey

Florida- Giroux, Rubtsov, Bunnaman, 2024 5th round pick

The Flyers now have solidified a conditional first round pick in 2024, along with a third round pick from 2023. On top of this, Owen Tippett was acquired through this trade, and he has proven to be a complete net positive for the Flyers. This season he accumulated a total of 38 points (22 goals and 16 assists) across 58 games played. Tippett continues to show is worth to the team.

The Flyers have also welcomed OHL player Denver Barkey, who showed a very promising record of 87 points (31 goals and 56 assists) throughout 56 games played with the London Knights. With a chance to prove himself yet to be seen in the NHL, the Flyers can confidently hope that Barkey continues to perform the way he has been.

"Any day that you trade your captain is a tough day, and with how much Claude has meant to this organization and how he has represented himself for 15 years, makes it all that more difficult to say goodbye," said Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher. Its never easy to part ways with such a seasoned veteran, but sometimes the pay off can be worth it. Although Giroux was sent to Florida, the match didn't last very long as he is now playing for Ottawa Senators.
